Disaster Preps: Week 7

You'll see that our grocery list is becoming repetitive, but that is by design.  The goal is to develop a kit for each person in your family, and by repeatedly purchasing items, you're making them self-sustaining for a few days.

Weekly Purchases: (items with * should be purchased for each family member)
  • 1 gallon water* (remember, a 24-count case of 16oz bottled water is 3 gallons)
  • 1 can ready-to-eat soup*
  • 1 can fruit*
  • 1 can vegetables*
  • Baby supplies if needed: extra plastic bottles, formula, diapers, etc
  • Insect repellent (lotion type repellents come in smaller containers that are easier to pack, and reduce waste by not over-spraying)
Action Items:
  • Establish an out-of-state contact to call in case of an emergency.  In disasters, long distance calling may be possible even though local dialing may be disrupted.  If you use a cellular phone, sending a texts uses less battery time, and may even get through when cellular networks are busy with calls.
