Weather for week of April 18, 2011

  • Strong to Severe Thunderstorms will be possible over Northwest areas late Tuesday night
  • Strong to Severe Thunderstorms will be possible over the entire ARKLAMISS region Wednesday, primarily along and north of the Interstate 20 corridor.

Tuesday will see gusty southerly winds ahead of an approaching cold front.  Wind gusts to 40 MPH are possible, and a Wind Advisory may be posted for the day.  As that cold front approaches, strong to severe storms should develop from the north-northwest late Tuesday night.

Wednesday, this same cold front should stall in Central Mississippi, generally along the Interstate 20 corridor.  With warmer, moist air flowing in from the south, strong storms can be expected Wednesday.  While atmospheric conditions, unlike last Friday, are not conducive to tornado development, the risk for tornadoes cannot be completely ruled out.

With the stalled frontal boundary Wednesday, areas north of Interstate 20 could see heavy rainfall.

For the remainder of the week, warm and humid conditions are anticipated.
